The Founder

UnlockAbility was founded on the solid teaching principles of building rapport and recognizing each person as an individual. My goal is for each person to become empowered and independent across various skill sets.

I am Sarah Coan. I founded UnlockAbility on the belief that every person has innate gifts that must be released and expressed. I hold a Masters in Education (K-5) and Special Education (K-12) from Rutgers University. I am passionate about connecting with individuals, both as a teacher and a mentor. I enjoy helping others accomplish their goals, gain greater confidence, and engage in lifelong learning.

Broad exposure to different kinds of students and programming across diverse school settings and philosophies, significantly impacted my perspective. Based on these experiences, I developed a solid, multi-faceted, and more expansive approach to education. I integrate and balance the best takeaways from my teaching experience: promoting independence; encouraging belief in oneself; evaluating progress in multiple ways; building cognitive skills; implementing consistent routines; providing clear guidelines; incorporating sensory materials; promoting real-life experiences. And, as you will experience, I have a certain originality and “sparkle.”

My specialty is One-on-One. This allows me to adapt activities to everyone’s unique personality and challenges. My sessions provide tools and structures which can be utilized in daily life, in academics, and beyond it.

The UnlockAbility approach works for people of all ages and levels of education. It is accessible to anyone motivated by self-growth and a sincere desire to reach beyond their current capabilities.
